Our four-month-old mutt Tanner just received his final round of shots on Friday, so I have begun walking him around the block. This morning he paid close attention to birds for the first time.
Two large crows were pecking around a neighbor’s yard. Tanner sat down, which is what he does when he is confused or unsure. He watched the crows walk a bit. When the crows noticed Tanner, they ascended briefly and landed another yard down, and Tanner had this look on his face like, “What? Those two-legged walkers can just jump up in the air 20 feet? Whoa. How’d they do that?”
He’s the same way with cars, motorcycles and anything else new. You can see him processing all of this new information, figuring out the patterns in which the world works. When it doesn’t involve him chewing my hand to bits, it’s fun to be a part of.
